Butterfly

Animations
1999

The camera follows the flight of a butterfly as it moves from a richly colored, vibrant natural environment into a landscape rendered barren and gray by human activity.

We see railway tracks and an approaching train. Following the butterfly as it flies through an open train window, we observe a somber interior filled with gloomy, withdrawn passengers. Suddenly noticing the butterfly, the sad, indifferent faces brighten, and the surroundings become infused with color. Leaving behind a vivid, colorful atmosphere, the butterfly exits through the opposite window and disappears into infinity.

Butterfly circulated internationally between 2001 and 2003, appearing in Korea (PISAF), Ottawa, Rome, Hiroshima, and Tehran. In Banská Bystrica, at the International Envirofilm Festival, it received the Slovak Academy of Arts Award.
